My husband and I absolutely loved the first Borderlands game. We were addicted to it from the moment we started it and raced home everyday after work and school to play it. Once we finished it we were both pretty sad because we had nothing to do, no other Xbox game held our attention for as long as it did. For me personally what attracted me to it were the visuals. I love the look of the concept game art because it has a comic book-y feel mixed with hand sketching (which is my favorite).
Borderlands is a game by Gearbox Software that came out in October 2009, they also have an awesome interactive website to check out. There’s lots of fun images and videos you can’t find on Youtube.
In 2007 this trailer was revealed at the 2K Games’ E3 2008 press conference.
I don’t like that version so much, and neither did Gearbox. You can learn more about that here on Gamespot.com. So after the change was made, it had that rough sketched look that I enjoy so much. The game has a fun story line and pretty cool characters you can choose from.
Random thought: The other day I was in a thrift store called 2nd & Charles and was walking through the comic book section, when I had the craziest idea. What if I was somehow able to interview or contact some of the guys behind the concept art of Borderlands? How amazing would that be, right?
Well, I didn’t, not yet anyway 😉 But I was able to connect with some of them through Twitter so that’s the next best thing in my book.
The sequel came out in September 2012 and my husband and I were so pumped to play it, but then he got scheduled to move to South Korea. Out of loyalty for my Player 1, I have to wait a whole year to play. I feel left out of the loop, but last week or so we got a new follower on our Twitter. Her name is Tiny Tina and she seems pretty awesome for a 13 year old. I can’t wait to meet her.
Another reason we like Borderlands is the humor. It’s very dark and surprising sometimes, which makes it great to experience while playing the game. This next Youtube video is just dripping with snarkiness and that’s just from one character.
I can’t wait, only 6 or so months to play! To hold me over I think I’ll find more cool things to look at, like Phil Wohr’s blog or the Tumblr (dedicated to everything Borderlands). Concept Art World | Neoseeker | Game Informer |
The first Borderlands was so fun to play, I can’t say there wasn’t a lot of yelling and cursing from being frustrated, but that’s what makes it fun when you do eventually beat the game together. It was a nice and wholesome bonding experience. I can’t wait for round 2.
